The shoulder is one of the most amazing joints in your body. That is until you injure your shoulder and are acutely aware of what you are not able to do any longer. There are several factors involved in shoulder conditions. The first one is a joint related injury. This could be a misalignment or dislocation. It also could be a form of arthritis from an injury long ago.
The second major condition involves an imbalance in the muscles. Usually the rotator cuff muscles are the culprit. It is easy to pull a muscle or the ligaments that support the shoulder.
The third shoulder condition is a nerve related disorder, like an impingement. This type of pain is a fairly good indicator of what type of injury it is. If its in the joint its usually a constant pain. It can be sharp or dull depending on whats wrong with the joint but it usually does not feel better with rest.
A muscle problem can be very painful as well. Usually it can feel better if you immobilize it and rest the muscle. Picture forcing a damaged muscle to work when it doesn’t want to. It’s going to let you know that its not a good idea. An impingement or nerve condition with the shoulder will be very sharp pain and often is associated with numbness, pins and needles or radiating pain up into the neck or down into the arms and hands.
